Why is it some people have nothing better to do then to come into your game and start killing his team mates? It's a shame that he's such a poor player that he feels he needs to ruin everyone else's fun. Well, there's enough of these people around that I decided to make a permanently passworded server. I'm sorry it's such a hassle, but it really does help cut down the idiots. Most won't take the time to go through this to enter the game. Unfortunately a lot of good players are lost as well as they won't take the time either. It's very unfortunate, but luckily word of mouth works great on the internet. So if you like my games, tell your friends. They may enjoy them too.
I used to run a extremely modified game server. Everything was pretty much set at cheat. hehe. Well, that's all changed now. I took 4 months or so away from rogue spear as I had burned myself out. But I'm back now. After a full reinstall, I've decided I really do like the realism the game provides, so I've only changed a few things in the game. These include a few weapons tweaks (ie: walther doesn't force you to sit), as well as the addition of adding many add-on modifications. This is a verbose version of my rules and info summary page. If you don't feel like reading a short novel, then back up a page and read the quick list.
- CO-OP Terrorist Hunt only. NO ADVERSARY.
I don't play/host adversary. Sorry, it's not for me. If that's your thing, please find another game. There are hundreds to choose from. Or host your own.
- Def: COOPERATIVE - cooperating; willing to help; run collectively.
- As you can see CO-OP means co-operatively..which means *work together *.
The whole point is for us to try to stay alive long enough to kill/surrender all of the tangos throughout the different maps. This is best accomplished by helping each other. If someone's ahead of ya, don't rush past them in an attempt to get the kill first. Provide backup. He's on point. It's your job to watch his back and save his ass if need be. :o)
- Generally both LOUD and SD guns may be used so don't whine for SD only.
I usually carry a nice and loud sniper rifle and a nice and quiet pistol. I've quickly become fond of this loadout. Altho it's easy to get killed this way too. haha. Using a sniper rifle as an assault rifle takes some getting used to. :o)
- I may have "Pistols Only" times where only pistols are available.
Amazingly this is actually pretty fun on some of the easier maps. Definately makes those maps you find just too easy and not worth your time a lot more fun.
- These guns are unchanged (well, pretty much). They are no longer all set to cheating levels.
The textures on my end look a lot better (or so I'm told) and the guns are supposed to now be more realistic than the "out-of-the-box" version. Only a few changes have been made. The Walther Sniper now has a bit more ammo per clip and you don't have to sit everytime you stop, and you get to carry a few extra grenades. A few of the guns have an little more zoom on them, and the pistols (even the ones that originally did) now have NO zoom.
- No HBS, no AutoTarget, no Rookie. Just tough missions.
That's right. No HBS. I used to use it. It's a crutch. The game becomes a lot more intense when you get rid of that thing. You start to live the experience. It can be an intense rush knowing someone's shooting at you but you can't for the life of you figure out WHERE!?!?!? hehe.
Do I need to explain AutoTarget and Rookie? hehe. We're playing ultra-hard maps and you want what now? :o)
- If you need a gun change type GC in the main loudout screen before the countdown finishes or in the game.
I no longer wait for everyone to go green before launching. It slows us up, especially when some people forget or go away from the keyboard.
- Leave your AI BEHIND! I don't use AI as much as I used to, mostly because I record stats a lot now. But there are times when I do. If you don't like your ai, shoot em. But don't bring em with you.
Use your ai the way you use extra men in an arcade game. AI get in the way, and they usually get killed easily. They're not really fast enough to be a match for the tango ai we're trying to beat, so leave them back where we started. If it's a really bad starting place (which happens), move em to a safer location and then leave em there. If you see someone say r in the game, it could be a message to you that you forgot to leave your ai behind. Please try to remember. Even I forget at times, but if you repeatedly walk around with your ai, I'm gonna shoot em. They get in the way.
- Now Playing: (for a list of the various mods I currently have installed see the CURRENT MODS LIST) - They range from mediocre hard to almost impossible. But they CAN BE BEATEN!
That's right. As impossible as these tangos seem, they can be beaten! It takes patience, and teamwork. The game is the most fun when we're all working together. Back each other up. Quit counting kills, unless you're trying to keep a record of how many tangos may be still left alive. However, a kill score of 15 or higher deserves the gratification of a poach. :o)
A poach is the point when half or more than half of the tangos were killed by one guy, using only ONE man. If you get a poach, you killed more than 50% of the tangos by yourself. hehe. Pretty good. But I hope you weren't a push hog (or trying to be RAMBO) during that episode, otherwise it's out ya go.
- Missions usually run in sequence, but not always, and since I have so many maps available to play I sometimes just jump around from mod to mod.
- Don't request missions...chaos ensues. Sometimes I'll ask for map choices.
I generally don't like people telling me to play this map, or play that map. I'll play the maps I want to. Sometimes I do ask for map requests. If I ask "map?" in the game, first one who spits out a map get's their choice. If I ask a specific person, then the rest of ya shut up, please. :o)
- An instant death to a team member immediately upon entering the game generally means a restart.
- Restarts can be common. So patience is needed.
These two go hand in hand. I didn't chose the insertion points for most of the maps in the game. There's a few I don't much care for, but it's where they are. Unfortunately some of the starts cause instant deaths. The randomization of game itself helps create that. Compounded with the starts.. well, sometimes we'll die 2 or 3 times in a row right at the start. I don't believe it happens often, but if an ai gets killed, I usually don't abort for it. You lost your ai. Sorry.
- I play to win. We're not here to shoot mindlessly at objects, creating excessive noise.
It really bugs me when people walk around just shooting stuff. If you want to do that, start up a private game and do it till your heart's content. But don't do it in my game. How can I hear the tangos when you're making all kinds of noise?
- Killing friendlies is NOT Tolerated . You will be ejected. Accidents happen. I will be the judge.
We all end up shooting someone at some point. And you can get shell shock from time to time in this game too, and that doesn't help. :o) But if you repeatedly keep killing people I have to kick you from the game. It may be that you just suck terribly and need more practice, or possibly you're one of those idiots I was referring to earlier. If you kill a team mate accidentally, appologize. If you get killed by a team mate, suck it up, buddy. It happens. If it repeatedly happens I'll do something about it.
- WARN BEFORE FRAGGING!!! -- I cannot stress this enough. If you don't, you're gone. Don't forget!
This is a BIG RULE in my games. More guys get killed from fragging then any other type of friendly fire. Please warn before you throw a frag. If you're going to throw a bunch consecutively, let us know. Give us a multiple frag warning. fire...fire...fire in the hole! :o) And let us know when yer done, will ya? :o)
- NO FRAG QUEENS! This is in referal to those of you who have this insane need to frag at every instance. Fragging has it's place, just not every place. And 3 or more frags in one spot is generally OVERKILL! (although there are exceptions)
- When we're close together, warn when opening a door; especially if there's someone in it's *line of sight *.
It's a very frustrating thing to be getting lined up for a shot, or having your back turned when someone opens a door that your standing in front of. POW. Your dead. A warning would have been nice. Be courteous. Watch out for long hallways as well. Just because your team mate is at the far end of the hall, the tangos still have a tendency to see them first.
- Don't crowd your partners. Give them some space. We need room to move.
The tangos are very fast and unforgiving. You learn quickly how to use cover if you want to stay alive. It's very hard to backtrack behind a corner when your team mate is right up against you. Tango shoots.. bang, you're dead. We need room to move, so please don't crowd.
- Don't camp. Just because you're carrying a sniper rifle, you can't just sit there and wait for the mission to be over.
I carry a sniper rifle a lot and very rarely do you see me camp. I may take time moving around, which is partly my style of playing and partly a restriction of carrying a sniper rifle, but I never just sit there and wait for someone else to finish the game. You can only cover a spot so long before it becomes redundant. Also, the tangos move around a lot. Camping usually gets ya killed.
- If you're the *last man standing*, pick up the pace a little...we're all waiting on ya.
Some guys like to frag themselves instead of trying to complete the mission. That's fine. And if that's your thing, then be my guest. Don't expect everyone else to do that. But if you're last man standing and still playing, be prepared for an abort. If I figure it's going to take too long, or not enough tangos have been killed, I'll abort. Realize that an abort is more preferable to fragging yourself when I'm recording stats. If you want me to abort, ask. If I don't do it, ask again, I probably missed it.
- Urban Operations is buggy. (Altho it's gotten a lot better since the 2.52 patch) When it crashes just be patient. I will restart a.s.a.p. Get back to the joined zone room and wait (if you're not ip'd in).
When you get a CONNECTION LOST error, or any error that pops you out of my game, click the OK as soon as possible. If it was my server that crashed, I'm probably going to be waiting for everyone to get back to the room so I can launch. I can't launch if you're still sitting there looking at the error message. And if I have to leave the room and start another because you won't pop out of the game, you won't be rejoing us. Once you're back at the zone game room I'm in, watch to see if other people are popping out of the game. If everyone's popping out, then it was me that crashed. If after 30 seconds or so there is no one else is popping out, you can pretty much assume that you got hit with one of those infamous random server disconnects that seem to plague Urban Ops and the zone. Feel free to rejoin.
- Keep the profanity down. People of many different ages play Rogue Spear.
Amazingly enough a lot of younger children play this game. I don't know if I necessarily approve, depending on the age, but it's not my kid. If mom says it's okay to play and they're mature enough to follow the rules, then hey, the more the merrier.. to a point. :o) So please watch your language.
- Some modifications I'm running require each player to also have and activate them. See the Required Mods List for the list of files you MUST HAVE.
- If you think the regular Elite terrorists that come with Rogue Spear/Urban Ops are tough to beat, then you probably shouldn't be joining my games. I'm generally running the tough maps, and they're TOUGH. The Elite terrorists don't hold a candle to these guys. If you want to come in and check it out anyway, you're welcome to. Just follow the rules and try not to get too frustrated from being killed all the time. :o)
- Unique armpatches are welcomed and encouraged. Take a look at some of our simple but effective patches.
Most guys that regularly play in my games have their own unique armpatches. I use them a lot to tell who's who in the game. They're not absolutely required, but if you have your own easily identifiable armpatch, show it off. :o)
- Don't task out of the game. If you have to go do something, leave the server. Come back when you're finished.
When you task out of the game you hold up the server if we finish or fail the mission I can't continue to the loud out screen and the game can't continue. If you task too often I'll have to boot you.
- If you're going to be away from the keyboard please ask someone to let the host know.
If we restart and you're just sitting there not moving it makes me wonder what's going on.
Well that's it. If you understand all of this and you think it still sounds like fun, then come on in. Let's get some tangos. The password is ichi-land.
If you don't like my ideals, well, sorry.. there's plenty of other games to play. See ya. :o)
